Walgreens Crème de Menthe Andes Ice Cream Review

In the previous post I mentioned that I went out on a limb and picked up Walgreen's Crème de Menthe Premium ice cream, which is based on Andes Candies Crème de Menthe Thin mints. I must have been feeling awful bold on Friday because:

1. I never eat mint chocolate chip ice cream
2. I prefer York Peppermint patties
3. technically, I rarely eat chocolate mints in general

I decided to go for the initial taste test last night. The exact description is "Refreshing Crème de Menthe Ice Cream with Delicious Fudge and Real Andes Creme de Menthe Chips". Crack open the container and you find yourself presented with a light green ice cream, a fudge swirl, and little chunks of Crème de Menthe. You know, I'm getting a little tired of typing that, let's go see what it means: Ahhh, a sweet, mint-flavored liquer. Well, now I know.

I start having flashbacks to the hutch in my grandmother's house. She had all these nice dishes on it and inside was candy for all the grand kids. I always went for the M&Ms, there was also stick candy, and I think she would have these mints. To be honest, if I was desperate for a candy fix, I would skip over the mints and go eat a couple of sugar cubes from the coffee set instead...

Yeah, now I remember why I never buy Andes mints. Don't get me wrong, its not bad. It's a fine ice cream, I just dont appreciate the flavor of it. The fudge swirl is decent, but I dont know how I feel about the CdM chips. I'm just not real comfortable with that warm fuzzy Andes candies feeling being mixed with a smooth and refreshing ice cream. I'm sure there are people out there who would love the contrast, I'm just not one of them.

Update: It's funny, after I wrote this post I could taste the ice cream again, it stuck with me that much. To be fair and balanced, I can now note that my peppermint patty loving wife took a crack at this flavor and she loves it. Fantastic news really, because now I don't have to eat it (sorry, had to be said)
