Here it is, freshly unwrapped
Let's get straight to the taste, the quality, nice, fancy smancy taste. It almost seems wrong to call this chocolate because it's really cocoa flavored. The more Haagen-Dazs I eat, the more I notice the underlying dry texture to the ice creams. In general I want to just call it funk, and I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, but there is a trend here. They make their ice cream differently, that's why it's more expensive, but that doesn't mean it will win everyone over. I'm calling it dry here because if you've ever tried to use cocoa like you would Nesquik, you know it's not the same (yes, I know there is sugar in Nesquik and cocoa is just cocoa).
I hate going down these roads because I start tripping over my words. This is a quality cocoa flavored ice cream that is just dieing to melt in your mouth. It's almost like a half frozen milkshake. The second it hits your tongue, it's starting to melt. You choose whether to chew or just enjoy the flavor as it melts. I'm just trying to blurt out that it does remind me a bit of trying to eat real cocoa rather than the milk chocolate other ice cream companies aim for.
Ok, I better end this review before I hurt my brain. So the moral is: high quality, dense ice cream with a mildly dry, cocoa flavor. I like it, and I appreciate it, but I don't think I would want it all the time (well, unless it's their awesome Rocky Road)
