So, what does a buck buy you nowadays? A Kemps Chocolate Eclair

I had to run to the bank at lunch, but I knew I needed a quick snack before heading back to the office. I was tempted to hit Wendy's for some kind of frosty concoction, but some inconveniently placed construction put an end to that idea. So, what's one to do? Hmmm, how about something quick and easy? It's gas station convenience store time.

The place I stopped wasn't huge, but thankfully they did have a small rolling freezer with a few treats in it. I was about to grab a winning Good Humor bar when I noticed Kemp's brand treats, and they're 99 cents to boot. Hmmm, strange, not something I see... ever, and since I'm stingy, the price is right. My choices were fudge bar and chocolate eclair. Eclair it is.

Here is our plain looking treat, nothing fancy

and what does a dollar buy me? how about a nasty case of freezer burn

it's not a very impressive looking treat but thankfully it still tastes like cheap ice cream and not ice cubes. The first few bites of bright white vanilla cheap ice cream are ok.

 The chocolate part starts off small (see image above) but then the chocolate center becomes more and more prevalent. Sure, it's not high quality, but it's a fairly rich flavor and it's doing a half decent job of solving my chocolate craving.

Uh oh, I'm done already. Hmmmm, I had two bucks, guess I should have bought two. So, it's an ok treat, not to filling, but the rich chocolate middle is definitely the saving grace here.

Looking back, I remember when a buck would get me two ice cream sandwiches, or as I liked to call them, "lunch".

Oh, one more note. Checking out the label I noticed "manufactured for and distributed by HP Hood LLC". Wait, what? Well, apparently I wasn't paying attention when I did my company research awhile back because Hood bought Kemps back in April 2004 and I totally missed it. Now the weird part is, everyone knows Hood, so why go with the unknown name in these parts? Are they afraid no one would buy it if it said Hood? I've never been a fan of the same product being sold under different names, it just seems disingenuous....oh great, now they've gone and made me use up my one big word for the month.
