Haagen-Dazs Dark Chocolate Mint Ice Cream
By now I think we've probably all seen the purple lidded, limited edition Haagen-Dazs flavors in our local grocery freezers. They were on sale a few weeks back, but midnight cookies & cream wasn't in stock, so I picked up Dark Chocolate Mint. I'm not a huge mint fan, but I do love dark chocolate, so I went for it.
I will admit to being thrown off by the fact that this flavor is not green. Green and mint go hand and hand. Actually, i think this is the first time we've had a non-green mint flavor on the blog.
How is it? Well, it's typical Haagen-Dazs. Thick, not to airy, very smooth. The flavor is well, like a chocolate mint. It's a quality mint, nothing cheap here, there's just not a ton to say. There are no surprises, no inclusions, just a very even flavor. You aren't going to get a mint vibe one minute and then dark chocolate the next. it's just dark chocolate mint. Thankfully it's not a menthol-ly mint, just a simple mint. I think it reminds me of Laloo's Rumplemint (a similar flavor, but without the crunch).
That's about all I can say.... maybe I need to figure out what mint ice cream should be paired with, or maybe a nice sundae (with cookie crumbs) is the way to go. I'm just not sure.
I could have sworn there was a white mint ice cream years ago. Seal Test or Breyers. Ed Begley Junior did the commercial I think. They were saying they dont add color
ReplyDeleteI am so sad that this didn't get more attention. I was absolutely devastated when they took it off the shelves, even though it stated quite clearly that it was a limited edition. First of all, I really dislike chocolate chips in ice cream, but i do love minty ice cream so I occasionally put up with overly hard chocolate pieces to enjoy the ice cream that comes with it. I bought the expecting a fine quality mint chocolate chip(with dark chocolate, which I love), but discovered something far superior. It was so perfect and smooth and delicious. I will miss it greatly for a long time to come.
