Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I can admit that these treats aren't bad at all. The brownies aren't dry and are fairly solid. They've got some resistance to them, but the terms chewy or hard didn't come to mind (well, at least not in a bad way). It's definitely a respectable brownie considering it needs to be frozen. The ice cream is the typical bland, so-so texture Klondike stuff they put in most of their treats.
The supposed WOW factor here is the inclusion of a fudge core, but unfortunately it fails to truly impress. If you put forth the effort by practicing on a box or two, you will learn to work it out so that many of your bites get a bit of fudge which does spice things up a bit. Thing is, if it's to be a "treat", I really shouldn't have to put forth any effort. My wife says they just should have skipped the fudge, but I say they should have either found a way to spread it out more.
If we wanted to go really crazy, we could skip the core and maybe go with some plentiful fudge chips. I'd really love the taste of these brownies mixed with the crunchy over-abundance of chocolate chips you find on the Blue Bunny Chips Galore (not that Klondike can't come out with a second variety once these pick up a fan base).
Unless the profit margin is really tight on these, I can't imagine them disappearing any time soon. They are a decent treat with minimal competition, so how could it fail? ...oh man, just had another crazy idea, what about one covered in Klondike chocolate shell? wait, a chocolate covered brownie? hmmmmm
Verdict? Decent
Buy again? yup (at least once in a while)
Update: Doh, I basically said these needed work, but that they should be ok because they have minimal competition... well, that wasn't enough to fight off the massive trimming Klondike has been doing to their offerings recently. Not sure what they are up to over there.

I just had an idea! They could make it like a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich, and, by that, I mean, put ice cream on one brownie and put a layer of fudge on the other. Of course, they would then put it together, and it would be fudge in every (logical) bite. Of course, I know the fudge would be thinner than the ice cream, but the sandwich would keep the same shape and size, overall, but the distribution of components might be better. Are you with me?
ReplyDeletea plain and simple solution, I love it. As long as they keep that fudge gooey, this would be way better.
ReplyDeleteHmm I guess when I recommended these to you mine had a way better distribution of the fudge since it was easy to get some in every bite. Ill have to buy another box to see if I just got one with extra fudge or something. Great review though.
ReplyDeletehey, don't feel bad. I definitely set my expectations a bit too high at first but then I used your recommendation as an excuse to attack it again (and then again). It's not a bad treat, I just think it could be a bit better.
ReplyDeletei'm totally lost as to the size of these things. could you maybe put a penny next to one to get some idea of comparative size?
ReplyDeleteotherwise, they do look tasty enough to give a try.
hahahaha, picky picky picky... but seriously, I forget sometimes. They're only 3 bucks, give em a try!
ReplyDeleteBought a box for $1.68 with a coin at Big Y. Still $1.18 too much. Very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI finally ended up throwing these into the mix tonight, and I agree that the fudge distribution could use some work. It's probably just simpler to manufacture this way though.
ReplyDeletethe fudge in these is sooooo good. maybe a few smaller blobs of it spread out in the ice cream but, i sort of like eating around it and saving it for the last bite. mmmmm ..
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream reminded me of eating Cool Whip, bland with a forgettable texture. In all 4 sandwiches in the box the fudge core was roughly the diameter of a quarter. Basically you would have no idea these had fudge in them if you ate the melting perimeter like I chose to do with these kinds of desserts. On the plus side, I liked the texture and flavor of the brownie.
ReplyDeleteI tried these for the first time tonight and found mayself asking "what the hell?" which I think is the reason they named these. I loved the brownie but the crispy piece of chocolate in the sandwich freaked me out. The fudgey center was ok but waaay too sweet (I have never said those words before). I thought it was decent enough for a novelty but I wasn't wowwed!
ReplyDeleteSorry my son and I loved the fudge brownie.😂
ReplyDelete@Jill: never be sorry for enjoying something :)
