I have two confessions to make.
1) I wasn't man enough to finish my Chewy Louie
2) While it wasn't perfect... I can't stop thinkin' about Chewy Louie
putting it next to a penny just seemed silly
With my new found appreciation and my new eating technique, I was tempted to try and plow through the rest of this 560 calorie treat. Instead, I left the second half for my wife who also enjoyed Chewy Louie. You know the best part? These buggers are 2 for a dollar at Market Basket right now, though I fear they are only that price because MB isn't going to carry them much longer.
If you love big fudgy cookies, and if you can forgive the an ice cream layer that is mild and not nearly thick enough, you will enjoy this treat. If you want a big gooey cookie without the chocolate rush, Louie has a regular chocolate chip cookie brother named Biggy Iggy (you can read about them here).Either way, don't fear the humongous-ness.
Verdict? Overpowering... yet addictive
Buy Again? Oh yeah.

I wanted to try this until I saw the nutritonals. 4 grams of trans fats? that's just beyond reasonable in my book.
ReplyDeleteHow does it compare to the best cookie-based ice cream sandwich I know, the It's-It bar?
ReplyDeleteHeck, I'm going to hunt it down and find out myself just because I can.
ReplyDelete4g trans-fat just seems irresponsible. Plenty of ice cream cookie sandwiches without it.
ReplyDelete@Nick & @Rodzilla: The only thing I can say is that only eating half is probably the best way to go (so you are stuck with 2g instead of 4). There really is no need for the trans fat, though I tossed the wrapper so I forget the specific ingredient that caused all the trouble.
ReplyDelete@Julien: I haven't had an Its-its yet (too expensive to ship). That said, it's hard to complain when you get a giant sandwich for 50 cents.
Woops meant unreasonable
ReplyDeleteLooks good! Shame about the nutritional content.
ReplyDelete@Nick: no worries, your grammar works either way (you were just in shock really)
ReplyDelete@LoC: I'll track down the regular chocolate chip one at some point soon.
@Dubba: I feel you on that. They make an easy purchase at $3.49/3-Pack, but tack on a $67 shipping charge to a $20 minimum order, and they could be a bit pricey.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Chewy's Big Brother: Biggy Iggy? He's even more radical than Chewy! I found them both at Cumberland Farms and saw some at Market Basket last summer. I also heard they pulled the trans fats out - and the taste is still the bomb!!!
ReplyDeleteGotta have more.
Ok, I first found a Chewy Louie ice cream sandwich on July 2nd, 2001 as I was leaving the gathering of the vibes music festival. Today is February of 2013 and I've yet to eat anything remotely more intergalactic as that cookie sandwich. It was so good I took 1 bite and asked my friend if he wanted the rest bc it was too good. He exploded laughing at me and took a bite and dropped his jaw in awe of how good this cookie sandwich was. We took 1 bite each and threw away the rest of the sandwich bc it was too freaking good. To you health nuts looking at that 4 grams of trans fats? yolo! (I was only man enough to eat ONE bite...)
ReplyDeleteI need to update the post as Nick has noticed that the trans fats are gone!
ReplyDeleteIt is now 2021. Does anyone have any updated information on these ice cream sandwiches??
ReplyDeleteThe delicious chocolate Chewie Louie's seem to be gone. I can't find them any where in 2024.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it looks like some small shops in Vermont still carry the Iggy regular cookie ice cream sandwich version. If you google "Biggy Iggy" it will pop up in stock in some shops in various Vermont towns.
