Wow, this makes 7 posts in
7 days, it's fun making time for the blog everyday, but what's missing? Oh, I know, it's been almost three months since we've covered
an ice cream cake... Hmmmm, I think I have something for us then.
Behold, Celebration Foods New (for 2011)
Milk Chocolate M&M's Ice Cream Cake serving up to 10 people with 40 fl oz of frozen cakeness. You can't really read it, but in the corner Yellow says "I scream, you scream" and Red follows with "Orange screams, he's ice cream"
Well, he ain't screamin', but he's not exactly happy either (he never is). Can I sidetrack us for a moment? I have never understood Orange.
Red and
Yellow are funny together,
Blue is the cool one,
Green is the girl, but since 1999,
Orange has always been the one flying over the cuckoo's nest. First he was crunchy and now he's a pretzel, and he's always been
a whiner paranoid. To me, it's never been funny, not even a little. So if we want to carry that vibe back to our treat here, it's just not a happy cake. No one is going to go "oh, how cute", we may not even get a "oh that looks so tasty".
Sorry, enough about how the cake might make you feel, let's look at what we actually have. It's vanilla ice cream with fudge swirls and mini M&M's all over the place. Unfortunately it didn't do that much for me. I kept looking for the crunch of
their regular cake or the excellence of
their oreo cake, but I found neither. Hard frozen M&Ms have never done that much for me.
I don't know if it's possible, but what if we had a different overall design, maybe something with full size M&Ms on top, and then say a middle layer of crushed M&Ms. Now that would be awesome. I know I'm being critical, but it's not like store bought ice cream cakes are known for their quality vanilla ice cream. It's not bad, there's just nothing here to get me excited, sorry.
Verdict? ho hum
Buy Again? nah
Dubba's note: Yes, I did just actually talk about how the cake's facial expression made me feel....
Oh man, I SWEAR I did not see
Greg's Freezer Burn review before posting my own review. I just watched it and oh my word he basically said all the same things! (Thanks to Julien for the tip)
On Second Scoop: I stand by my original points, this one is boring and I call out Celebration Foods to make a REAL M&M ice cream cake.

As I recall, FreezerBurns didn't give it much props either. I don;t know how they mess up on such simple math If ice cream and cake are both awesome, it should follow that ice cream cake must be double awesome unless something goes terribly wrong.
ReplyDeleteAw this is quite cute!! I think the centre of it looks quite yummy, but i agree frozen m&ms = ew.
ReplyDelete@Julien: thanks for the tip man! too funny that not only was he not impressed, but also finds the presentation disappointing
ReplyDelete@LoC: The Celebration Foods corporation appreciates your enthusiasm hehehehe but seriously, I appreciate the alternate opinion.
I've said it before, but I think the chocolate cake crunch filling (like at DQ) is crucial to ice cream cake success.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I thought was that orange M&M looks like he's been on a bender and/or is seriously depressed! Not a happy cake at all!
