Gifford's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip
Frozen Yogurt Review

Ok, another lost review. Thankfully this review is only a month old. When I made the awful mistake of trying Arctic Zero, I had also bought a quart of Gifford's froyo to wash it down (and kept the trip from being a total waste).

This is BLACK RASPBERRY CHOCOLATE CHIP YOGURT incase you couldn't tell.... do they really need to yell with their big purple font here? I'm sorry, but this packaging is just offensive in the fact that not only do they not show the product, they are SCREAMING the name out. Oy....

Here it is : "Smooth, black raspberry low-fat yogurt and rich chocolate chips. Summertime in a (low-fat!) scoop".Now it was a bit more chewy than I had anticipated, but the funny thing is, it tastes like a slightly gummy light ice cream, not frozen yogurt. There's no real weird aftertaste or anything like that. I could totally pawn this off on someone and they would never know what's up (They would probably think it some Edy's Fun Flavor).

I dig the overall raspberry flavor and the chips are decent, but I wonder if they are needed. My wife has some and also finds that overall it's a decent product. It's a nifty little break from full fat ice cream though I wouldn't mind a smidge less saturated fat (maybe if they ditched the chips?). In case you are curious, there's no mention of any active yogurt bacteria in this one.

So, it's decent and different and if it was a little more accessible, I could foresee leaving something like this in the freezer from time to time. My only request would be a few more flavors, say spice things up a little and maybe turn their grape nut flavor into a froyo, now that would be interesting!

Verdict?  Decent
Buy Again?  On occasion

  1. I like the label. I wonder how the original would compare to Graeters, it sounds like they would lose on the chip front.

Just curious, why do you care about sat. fat here but not with other frozen dairy?

  2. it's not like this stuff is awesome, don't be too jealous, but for a froyo it's pretty nifty.

cause I'm finicky! hehehe, iunno, I guess I have lingering trouble with things like weight watchers where they tout healthy and then throw like 8 grams of sat fat at ya.

  4. For froyo suggestion I just had stonyfield's caramel frozen yogurt and I highly recommend you trying it. My pint has tons of swirls of caramel and about halfway down there was a pool of caramel just waiting to get dug into. It was pretty good I'd say at least a 7.5/10
