Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Therapy Ice Cream

Now Chocolate Therapy once existed as a single serve container, and technically I've already tried Chocolate Therapy from a scoop shop, so let me jump right to my conclusion on the new pint sized variety: This is going to be the chocolate pint to beat in 2012. It's just that chocolaty. I think it's only fair to warn you that if you are a chocolate addict like myself, it's going to be really hard to put this pint down. For everyone that misses the limited edition Flourless Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Therapy is here to permanently take it's place.

Chocolate Therapy is Chocolate Ice Cream with Chocolate Cookies & Swirls of Chocolate Pudding Ice Cream. Think about that for a minute (or 7). Close your eyes and envision what that would taste like. I don't even need to crack open the pint to show you because your mind is already racing with chocolate on chocolate on chocolate goodness. I see chocolate houses with brownie bushes and pudding rain drops and NOM NOM NOM NOM. Man this stuff is evil... why did they ever cancel this flavor?

How awesome does that look? Reminds me of some kind of awesome fudgy multi-layer cake. I was just picking on how little air there is in Graeter's and then I pop open this pint which seems to have less air overrun than B&J's typical flavors. Maybe it's the pudding that lacks air overrun, but unlike the Graeter's, I get more of a milk undertone than a water undertone.

I think we need to get a bit closer to really show the complexity of this flavor. It's usually so easy to tell the base from the swirl from the inclusions, but on this one, not so much. I think we are looking at Chocolate cookies (wonderfully soft chocolate cookies that look like ice cream). You can't scoop this one expecting solid chunks of cookie, no no, our three components have become a triforce of awesomeness and you will never split them apart.

If you think about it, I guess the intertwining adds a bit of fun mystery to every bite because no matter how hard to try, you'll never know what combo you'll get... ahh, it's doesn't matter. Every scoop is chocolatly heaven and that's all you need to know. It's good, just like you expect, just like you want, why are you still reading this? go get some.

Still here? I will point out that it finishes with the hint of a dry note. Often a flavor will leave me wanting something salty (pretzels in particular), but in this case I think I'm more thirsty than anything. Not a bad thing and probably the only mildest of complaints I could make about this excellent flavor. It's not even one of their fattiest flavors (BONUS!). This is the kind of pint you hide in the back of the freezer because you won't want to share it and you'll want it to be waiting for you when you get home. It's just that good.

Verdict?  Chocolate Awesomeness
Buy Again?  You know it

  1. OK, I can't be the only one who thought of this while reading this description (except I thought it in English):

  2. I've been looking for this and haven't been able to find it in any of my local stores. I guess I'm just going to have to start looking harder and/or turn to the streets to start rioting to get it, because this looks delicious.

    1. I doubt we've even hit 50% market saturation yet, it's taking it's sweet time (but worth the time)

  3. That sounds amazing! For an even bigger chocolate overload, try scooping some of that on top of a warm brownie and washing it down with a glass of chocolate milk. :D

  4. This B&J flavor is my favorite! In fact, it is my favorite ice cream of all times! Is it really going to be accessible outside of a Ben and Jerry's scoop shop?? This is awesome! I can't wait to see it in the grocery store again and stock up. B&J scoop shops are hard to find these days. Try this ice cream in a milkshake and simply sip to heaven!

  8. I bought this and intend to eat it on Saturday (my weekly designated Bad Food Day), but I took a little taste and man, it is really something. The chocolate in this, Peanut Butter World, and S'Mores really packs a punch (which is why they should get rid of the lackluster Mud Pie).

  9. THANK YOU, BEN & JERRY, FOR BRINGING BACK THE MOST INCREDIBLE ICE CREAM FLAVOR EVER MADE... BY ANYONE!! Heck, Chocolate Therapy is the best ANYTHING ever made by anybody! IT'S THE GREATEST THING TO EVER EXIST IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!!!

I petitioned you over and over, along with thousands of other people who agreed with me that this flavor should NEVER have been taken off the market, and we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts - err, stomachs!!!

  11. I really like chocolate but I was not blown away by this flavor. It seems really unbalanced. Maybe they could put in some white chocolate or something to break it up. I kind of felt like I was eating a carton of frozen brownie batter mixed with frosting - a raw cake-ball if you will. I wouldn't call it nasty but I definitely wouldn't say it's that good either. This is one flavor I won't buy again.

  14. I always have to buy two pints, not because I plan to eat all of it but because I need at least a buffer of 1 pint in order to get any at all. Very popular flavor in my house. :)

  15. Can you do a post on Ben 'n Jerry's Half Baked ice cream? That is my favorite flavor!

  16. Good job on the review! We need a true chocolate lover to review a hardcore chocolate flavor. Any average vanilla person would've wimped out and given a bad review, deeming it too chocolatey. Super job! Can't wait to try this one.
