February & March can be a tough time for ice cream shopping as grocery stores wrestle with the decision of bringing people in with the new stuff versus clearancing out the old stuff before it passes its expiration date. This has become painfully clear at my local super walmart but my daughter and I searched until we picked up something that we have somehow missed over the last two years.
This is
Breyers Oreo Cookies & Cream Chocolate BLASTS and it's oreo cookie pieces in chocolate frozen dairy dessert .It was part of the big wave of BLASTS flavors that hit us in 2011. Funny how we've tried
Golden Oreo,
Birthday Blast Oreo, and.... wait... did we skip the original flavor too? DOH! (and the mint one for that matter). HAHAHA, guess my distrust of frozen dairy desserts got the best of me.
Seeing the cream from the cookies is a nice touch (and something that's always lost with a white base). Ofcourse, the brown base that shows off the cream also masks all the cookie crumbs everywhere, but thankfully they are still there.
Do we need to go in depth on this one? Probably not. "This
ice cream is kind of disappointing" was the gist of what I said. "You can't really taste the Oreos" responds my daughter, and she's right. The texture is dull, the flavor is dull, and the cookies can't manage to save the day. This is just another unremarkable frozen dairy dessert from the same folks who use to have the best mainstream ice cream on the market. Maybe they miss dominating the freezer aisle, or maybe they're just running on cruise control right now, but this uninspired treat had me racing for the
Cabot whip cream and
Keebler ice cream toppings to spruce things up a bit.
Verdict? Blah
Buy Again? why bother?

ReplyDeleteThis ice cream is DELICIOUS!
ReplyDeletei love it! it doesn't disappoint me at all! i think we all need to keep in mind that everyone does have there own opinions, so just because someone says something about something/someone doesn't really mean you need to feel the same way :)
but nice article anyway!
somebody has to keep breyers in business... though I do suggest taking a gander at breyers facebook page, those against frozen dairy dessert do not stand alone :)
