Ben & Jerry's Mississippi Mud Pie Ice Cream
Chocolate Ice Cream & Vanilla Ice Cream
with Chocolate Cake Pieces & a Chocolate Mousse Swirl
There's an interesting smell coming off of this one, it must be the mousse!
Cool! I'm digging the color scheme and the cake bits look promising.
Ok, I take my first few bites and I'm already hooked. Not only is there a mousse swirl, but I'm thinking this pint might have a great overall mousse flavor. Oh this one might be awesome (don't forget, I am a chocolate fiend).
Yup, definitely liking this one, especially when I hit the mousse swirl. The flavor is varying based on how much of each component I get. When you get a fair amount of vanilla, it's almost got a hoodsie cup vibe to it which adds a bit of fun to the pint. Oh, I could plow through this pint, but I'm trying to take my time.... really I am.
The flavor variety is definitely keeping me on my toes. It's just a really nice rich milk chocolate flavor overall. Ahhh, perfectly dialed in on the chocolate on some bites, then this neat modified flavoring on the other bites. So often I get bored when Ben & Jerry's swirls their vanilla with other flavors because it becomes a big muted... thing, but they've done something different here and it totally keeps you hooked.
If you're curious, I haven't hit any large puddles of mousse. Instead my pint consists of thin swirls that are enhancing the flavor here and there. Since it's chocolate on chocolate, we're talking about the flavors enhancing each other rather than any kind of stark contrast.
Ok, I haven't seen a ton of cake bites but to be honest I don't really care right now. They seem tasty enough, plus they are nice and soft, but their frequency.... actually, wow, that cake bit really stood out (in a good way). There's a little something extra in the cake bits, but I just can't put my finger on it. A little extra flavor hook if you get them alone. Another nice touch.
Oops, over half the pint is gone and I've now consumed all my saturated fat for the day.
I really need to say this again. All too often the vanilla seems to dull the overall flavor in these Ben & Jerry's pints, but instead this one delivers the perfect milk chocolate flavor. I'm not sure if I've just had a chocolate shake or a slice of chocolate mousse, but either way, oh am I satisfied.... and thinking I should have bought two pints so I don't have to share this one.
Random Thought: swap the cake bites for their chocolate cookie swirl = chocolate cream pie!
Verdict? Excellent
Buy Again? Oh yeah, time to hoard

For me, this is such a slap in the face. They discontinued Mud Pie (and Dublin Mudslide before it) just to come out with this Mississippi Mud Pie which does not contain the Irish Cream Liqueur flavor. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. If anything would drive me to a Wal-Mart on Black Friday, this would be it! Although I do miss the Mud Pie flavor too...it didn't last long. :(
ReplyDeleteMud Pie was my all-time #1. Very bummed its gone. The texture of that cookie swirl was so great.
ReplyDeleteSo upset Mississippi Mud was discontinued this is definitely my favorite!!!
ReplyDeleteHT has mud pie. I think it's [junk] though
