Sam's Choice Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake Ice Cream

So, is everybody having fun watching the freezer aisles mix in all the new 2014 stuff? Some stores are a little more energetic than others, and one store that's gotten pretty creative is Walmart actually. In my store, the entire last freezer door is now their fancy section. They've got a few shelves of Talenti, they've got a shelf of the new Breyer's gelato, and they have a whole bunch of new Sam's Choice Ice Cream Quarts (and a few froyos and a sorbet). It's a respectable selection of some standard ice creams but there are three that really stand out: Coffee & Donuts, Blackberry Crumble, and the one I choose first:

Turkey Hill Coconut Cream Pie Ice Cream

[By Nick, New for 2014] It’s been awhile since a store around me has carried a new limited edition Turkey Hill flavor. When I saw the containers of Coconut Cream Pie starring back at me in the freezer isle, I was torn. On one hand, I’m still intimidated by coconut flavors. On the other, I want to beat Dubba in our competition to see who can try more Turkey Hill flavors this year.

I know we can be fairly critical but it's only because we know these companies can do better. I know we are just one website, and these are just opinions... but don't be surprised when the core lineup disappears again.

[By Nick, 2014-2017] So this is really happening right now? You’re telling me that Breyers, the company who can barely produce ice cream is now making gelato? I can sense my Grandfather rolling over in his grave. When you think about it though, it actually makes a lot of sense. Unlike ice cream, gelato doesn’t have a set definition or standards that have to be met to use that name. I don’t know about you but the term gelato sounds a heck of a lot better than frozen dairy dessert. Dubba has already covered the other three flavors and wasn’t all that positive about them. I was finally able to acquire a container of their Tiramisu so let’s see if they’ll be able to impress me.

[By Nick] After Caramel Chaos not living up to my expectations of being a caramel overload, I was wondering if Chocolate Shoppe would be able to meet them with a mint flavor.

Described as “A mint lover's paradise” Chocolate Shoppe mixes both Andes Candies and Grasshoppers cookies in their green mint ice cream. If that wasn’t enough, they also added a fudge swirl to tie everything together.

Yoplait Greek Frozen Yogurt Bars with Granola

[New for 2014, discontinued] Now Wells sent over this next sample for free, but to be honest, I would be hard pressed to walk by this one without trying it. It reminds me too much of the old Blue Bunny Aspen froyo bars from a half decade ago. Keep in mind there is also a blueberry variety, but blueberry flavors rarely work for me.

Well, it's been almost 6 years in the making, but the time has final come to deliver our 1000th review! Can you believe that, 1000 reviews? Not a 1000 posts or even a 1000 reviews, but 1000 products have been reviewed since the start of this blog! Wow, just wow! You want to talk about being crazy for ice cream, then you've come to the right place!

To celebrate, I made my way to the local DQ, but not before I stopped at McDonald's. That's right my friends. The "beloved" bright green McDonald's Shamrock Shake is gonna face off against the new Mint Oreo Royal Shake from Dairy Queen. May the best shake get finished!

[By Nick, New for 2014] Since Dubba has probably hit red velvet overload by now, I guess it’s time for me to review one. Knowing Friendly’s Sundae Extreme line consisted of Frozen Dairy Desserts, I was a little hesitant in picking this one up. That said, I’ve never tried Friendly’s FDD before and I’ve yet to have an ice cream that replicated Red Velvet Cake well so maybe it will work better as a FDD. Why yes, I did have to rationalize buying this carton, don’t judge me.

Blue Bunny Brownie Sundae Ice Cream

[By Nick] I’ve reviewed plenty of fat free products as well as those with no sugar added. However, I have never reviewed a product that was both fat free and has no sugar added. Well, that all changes today because I picked up Blue Bunny’s Brownie Sundae to review. Blue Bunny actually has a lot of “lifestyle options” but if I’m going to break into new territory, might as well go with the one that sounds the best.

The description also made me laugh a bit. Blue Bunny puts Brownie Sundae as “Moist chunks of brownie and ribbons of fudge frolic in fat-free, no sugar added vanilla ice cream.” Anyone else envisioning a brownie frolicking through a field on a summer day? No, just me? Well umm…let’s move on.

[New for 2014, Discontinued] Look, if you're already bored of Breyers version of Italian frozen dairy dessert, I get it, and that's fine. Feel free to skip this short review knowing this flavor has all the flaws you've come to expect from Breyers nowadays.

Blue Bell Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream

[By CT, New for 2014] I've recently come to the conscious realization that caramel is my "go-to flavor." Be it coffee, cookie, candy or ice cream, if there's a caramel option, I'm going for that one. And it seems lately that caramel... more specifically... sea salt caramel, is finding its way into more and more things. And that's fine by me.

Blue Bell has launched their version of Sea Salt Caramel. Dubba gave me the heads up and I have answered the call more than willingly. Blue Bell's description of this products reads: "A creamy vanilla ice cream surrounded by a tasty salted caramel sauce swirl."

Haagen-Dazs Tiramisu Gelato

[By Nick, 2014-2016] With Dubba being the first to cover some of the new Ben & Jerry's Core flavors, it seems only fitting that I’m the first to cover some of the new gelato flavors from Haagen-Dazs. Out of the four new flavors, Tiramisu was the one I knew I needed to try first. While their Cappuccino gelato left a lot to be desired last year, I have high hopes for this one. See, I loved the flavor of G.S. Gelato Tuscan Tiramisu but felt like it needed ix-ins to take it to a whole new level. On the other hand, Ben & Jerry’s Volun-Tiramisu was weak in the coffee flavor but their lady fingers made up for it. It sounds like Haagen-Dazs has combined the two and hopefully it will be a winner.

[New for 2014] Alright, four new Talenti flavors in the pipe (including the exclusive Target hazelnut flavor), and we've already tried the excellent caramel apple pie flavor. Now this next one popped up in the southeast first at the end of last year, but it's here now in the northeast. Let's dig in!
