[By Nick, New for 2014] So, I recently was able to finally try
Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter World. While I agree with you guys on it being great, it only manages to break my top 5 for B&J's flavors. That said, I've had more and more cravings for the classic sweet and salty combo. Thankfully I have a free container of Baskin-Robbins to hopefully help satisfy those cravings. Since this is a pretty basic flavor, let’s move right on with things. [Don't forget, all these new pints should be available at your local grocery store]
Baskin Robbins Peanut Butter 'N Chocolate Ice Cream
Chocolate Ice Cream with Chunky Peanut Butter Ribbon
The milk chocolate base is actually reminiscent of B&J's from PB World. Not complex but the milkiness goes well with the ice cream's smooth texture. The more and more I eat chocolate ice cream, the more I realize that good ones are hard to come by. At least here we have a redeemable base.
The peanut butter swirl is actually a chunky peanut butter one. The swirl is sweeter than I'd like my peanut butter to be. However, there's enough saltiness to make the milk chocolate base pop. You also get a nice burst of salt when you crunch into one of the peanuts.
The problem with this flavor is there's just not enough going on for me. There either needs to be more of the swirl or some other kind of mix-in. In a market flooded with chocolate peanut butter flavors, you have to really do something to stand out from your competition. The crunchy peanut butter swirl was a nice touch by Baskin-Robbins but it's just not enough for me to warrant a rebuy when there are much superior versions out there. It looks like I'm not having the best of luck with these faux-pints. I have a few more flavors to go so hopefully I'll find a gem soon.
Verdict? Crunchy peanut butter swirl is fun but needs more going on.
Buy Again? No
This sounds right up my alley! I love chocolate bases that look like that and I love the idea of using crunchy peanut butter. I just wish I had a Baskin Robins around my area. I'm jealous of you for getting to sample this.
ReplyDeleteStride, I don't have a Baskin-Robbins near me either. To have more access to those who don't have a BR close is one of the reasons this line was created. Hopefully you'll spot it in a store near you soon so I can hear your thoughts!
