Hershey's Salty Caramel Truffle Ice Cream

[By Nick] ‎Every time I go to the Niskayuna Co-op, they manage to have a new limited edition pint from Hershey's Ice Cream. My last visit resulted in the same experience and the pick up of this overdone flavor.

Honestly, I want salted caramel truffle flavors to die by now. There's just too many and as long as Unilever doesn't ruin Talenti, no one has come close to taking over their throne. That said, I'm still a sucker for new/limited edition products.

Removing the lid, there's a sign of the caramel swirl as well as a truffle. Sadly, that's not the case throughout. Like Dubba experienced with their Midnight Caramel‎ River flavor, the caramel has been injected instead of actually swirled in. It's weird and I don't like it one bit. It leaves for an unbalanced flavor experience. The caramel is supposed to be salted but it's really hard to tell. There's some saltiness but if I wasn't expecting it, I doubt I would've noticed it all that much.

That and the truffles are quite scarce as well. They're exactly the same as every other caramel truffle you'd find so I didn't even bother photographing them. There's really nothing special about them at all compared to other brands.

Thankfully the base packs a great flavor or this would've been a complete bust. It's a sweet caramel flavor and reminds me a lot of the inside of a milky way bar. Honestly, I would've just settled for a container of only the base because the mix-ins are just a distraction when you run into them. This is a limited edition that you can easily pass over. Better luck next time, Hershey's!

Verdict?  Mix-ins are too sparse and take away from the base.
