[By Nick] I wasn't kidding when I said I had a backlog. Remember when I went on a
tour of the new Whole Foods in my area? Well this pint was from that trip. That and I still have one more pint after this to review from it. Time to get Blue Marble's first review on the site!
Blue Marble Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream
Vanilla Ice Cream with Crush Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
We all know Dubba and I suckers for cookies and cream. Blue Marble also uses only organic and non-gmo ingredients which might make this the first cookies and cream of it's kind reviewed for the blog. Dubba can correct me if I'm wrong of course.
[Dubba: Three Twins!]
This ice cream looks like a proper C&C to me. A nice shade of off-white from the cookies being blended into the base as well as large chunks of the cookies throughout. Who would've guessed? It tastes like a well-executed cookies and cream as well. The base has a strong vanilla presence to it which isn't common when it's not vanilla bean being used.
The cocoa from the cookies add some bitterness to the sweetness of the base to balance things out. The cookies don't retain too much of their structural integrity though. They're all very soft and reminiscent of milk soaked Oreos in flavor and texture. I'm not sure if they only use the wafers or not because I don't see any of the cream on the cookies or taste that distinct filling.
That said, it's an all around good flavor and I have no complaints about it other than them making it a faux-pint instead of a tradition 16oz container. If you're looking for an organic, non-gmo cookies and cream, this might be your best bet.
Verdict? It's C&C, it's hard to be bad
Buy Again? I don't think I'd go out of my way for it
Cookies 'N Cream should be sent to the graveyard. It is so boring. If you are going to be smashing out the calories, there are much better options. My opinion.
ReplyDeleteOpinion noted - and wrong.
ReplyDeleteBAHAHAHAHA, well played Anon#2.
ReplyDeleteNo offense Anon#1, but that's like saying we should send cookie dough to the graveyard. If you've only had cheap C&C, I could see your frustration, but a quality C&C is a timeless classic. In fact, I just had some last night.
I love cookies and cream. I take oreos and use the cream mix in the ice cream base then use oreos wafers back there. I leave some whole oreos for flavor.

ReplyDeleteAs a kid even cheap c&c was delicious. Of course back then, there was no $4 (HD was probably around but never bought. BJ was deiniftely not.) or $10 pints.
And I am a sucker for cleaner flavors over mixin overload that is everywhere.
I love cookies and creme too. B&J's has a good version with their Milk and Cookies.
ReplyDeleteDubba and Nick, saw two new (to me) ice creams tonight and thought of both of you. Phin something and Agave were the names.
Have a good weekend guys!
