Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences
Strawberry gelato with a rich fudge swirl & gourmet dark chocolatey truffles
Can you see the liquidy center?
The good news is that strawberry flavor kind of naturally fits in with this kind of texture. If you like the other breyers gelatos, you should like this with it's truffles and the flavor profile (weird rubber part excluded). I mean, I would have no problem just devouring the truffles with a bit of strawberry fluff here (especially since I've been dying for chocolate all day).... ahhh, wait, is that dryness from the truffles throwing me off? Ahhhh, can't you do anything right Breyers?
Wow, how many times can I go back and forth on this review? Put it this way, the truffles start good but end weird. Or let's put it another way. I made my daughter try some and her response was "it's got that same weird chocolate as the minty one". We wound up burying her bowl in Nesquik so she could power through it without wasting.
On Second Scoop: I had some again and yeah, the weirdness of the swirl is undeniable, so I inhaled the rest of the truffles instead of scooping beyond a few bites. Let's put an emphasis on inhale because like I mentioned before, they are decent at the beginning but they finish weird. I want to be all done with Breyers gelato for the year, not sure if I'll try the chocolate caramel flavor [Nick might be back at some point to cover the new cappuccino flavor].
Verdict? weird, burnt rubbery
Buy Again? not a chance
I see that you have failures with Breyer's gelato line. They need to stop and reformulate the gelato. Stick what they good at; ice cream. Don't mess around more.
ReplyDeleteI've eaten several of the Breyers gelatos and didn't like any of them. I thought they were bland and had a weird texture and... yeah. Just didn't like them.
ReplyDeleteDear Anon,
ReplyDeleteWhen's the last time you had Breyer's "Ice cream"? It's almost all frozen dairy dessert now.
sorry, couldnt resist :)
It was a long time ago maybe 15 years ago.
ReplyDelete@Anon: hahahahaha, yeah, Breyers glory days.... so very long ago
ReplyDeleteI've given up on Breyer's except for the Natural Vanilla. Everything else is so bad. Gives me the sads because I grew up eating Bryer's.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you, (Dubba) and Nick I've found lots of great replacements.
Good luck with the snow Dubba. We are only expecting a total of 8 inches and I am already having a nervous breakdown. Will cope with ice cream.
Yeah, Breyers was my gold standard as a kid. Such a waste. [Snow wasnt too bad, just blended in with the other 3 feet of snow on the ground]
ReplyDeleteI'm just catching up on the blog now Dubba and your last comment about the snow blending in really made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteI needed that, we are getting eight more inches on Thursday.
I will be buying ice cream tomorrow in preparation. Shoveling=deserving of ice cream.
The Chocolate Caramel flavor is actually one their better gelato flavors. We really liked the Tiramisu flavor as well (our 2nd favorite). Triple chocolate also isn't bad, but the "white chocolate swirl" flavor kinda screws it up, but not so bad we don't like the overall flavor.
ReplyDeleteThe Strawberry Truffle and the Vanilla Caramel were totally inedible for us. Our Strawberry Truffle had many of the flavors you indicated in your review (burnt tire, weird finish on the truffles) and I found that when eating the strawberry flavor along with one of the truffles and the "fudge swirl" that is had the distinct aftertaste of fish, specifically bad salmon.
You guys all seem extremely petty.
ReplyDeleteInedible is hardly the word you should use..
I just tried it and it's far from inedible.
I would love to see some of you guys actually try something that didn't taste good..
so reviewing over 1200 ice creams, gelatos, and froyos doesn't give me the necessary experience to complain about Breyers? how many more reviews do I need to write before my opinion carries weight?
ReplyDeleteas always, glad you enjoyed it, but it doesn't mean I have to. these Italian frozen dairy desserts are a far cry from far better gelato offerings in the freezer aisle. Breyers is a burnt out husk of the company that once delivered tons of quality products.
