[New to scoop shops in 2015, new to freezer aisle in 2016]
It's time for a quick review of.....
Perry's Deep Sea Treasure Ice Cream
caramel ice cream with salty caramel swirls and caramel sea salt truffles
It's a fairly standard flavor until the salty swirl kicks in. It's got the right amount of salt to bring the base alive but not so much that it overwhelms. Noticeable but not overbearing and that's a good place to be with a caramel swirl.
This is another flavor with a very airy texture from Perry's this year. I want to say they've all been like this. I don't know if they are rocking a new formula or tweaks this year but it certainly seems so.
On Second Scoop: With only 180 calories per serving and an airy texture, I'd be hard pressed to make this pint anything but a two serving event. The base has a good amount of flavor that is salty and sweet but not overpowering. Your typical caramel truffles are included and fairly plentiful. It's fine for a mainstream product and should fill your need for a well rounded caramel treat.
Verdict? good flavor
Buy Again? sure
Reading this post makes me wish that some maker of ice cream would come out with a Caramello bar mix in. I don't hear much about Caramello candy bars these days, but they are sooooo good. Another one I would love to see is an After Eight mint mix-in. As an aside, that new cotton candy blizzard from DQ looks really icky. I bet my kids would be attracted to it, but I can imagine it's super sweet. I'm over birthday cake and other super sweet flavors.
ReplyDeleteBlue Bunny actually had a caramello ice cream bar but they've ditched all their Cadbury themed products, Walgreens had an Andees thin mint flavor, and lastly, the cotton candy blizzard is sweet but really good (It came back last year after a several year hiatus).
ReplyDeleteCotton Candy is back this year too I think.
DeleteIs Blue Bunny's Salted Caramel Craze worth trying? Otherwise, I really enjoy their Peanut Butter Party (Panic) ice cream and it easily beats out the other local grocery options (except for B&Js and Giffords).
ReplyDelete@Anon: yeah, that's why Anne brought it up, because it's back for 2016.
ReplyDelete@Brad: I'll grab it next time I see it, but it should be decent.
Deep Sea Treasure is an odd sounding name...I thought maybe it had scallops as a mix in
ReplyDeleteOr seaweed -- I could picture a frozen clam chowder :/
