Summer Question: Lemon or Peach?

I spied a few fun sounding summer flavors while I was in Virginia the other week though I have no experience with the PET brand (sounds pretty low budget right?)

We have two PET Limited Edition Ice Creams here, Lemon Meringue Pie Premium Ice Cream and Homemade Style Carolina Peach Pie ice cream. Has anyone tried either? Or have you tried PET at all? In general, what's your favorite summer flavor? I think I would grab the peach first but I'm not positive.

P.S. Anyone know what "homemade style" is?

P.S.S. PET Dairy website says that they've been around for 85 years, they are available in Virginia, Georgia, and the Carolines, and they are owned by Dean Foods.

P.S.S.S. I forgot Nick reviewed two PET pints in 2015

What do you think of Kroger ice cream?

While some mid Atlantic grocery stores are just continuations of my local stores, like their Food Lion is my Hannaford, there are two stores I wanted to check out in particular: Kroger and Harris Teeter. Nick has reviewed several pints from Kroger during his travels southwards, but this was the first time I got to walk their aisles. Here are some of the more interesting things that I found. It's a wide ranging selection as they have options in premium, regular, light, FDD and even gelato.

Vice Cream Afternoon Delight Ice Cream

[New for 2016] Vice Cream was on sale for $3.99 a pint so I decided to buy my first pint of ice cream in two weeks. Yes, I actually went two weeks without buying a pint of ice cream. Yes it felt kind of weird. Now this is one of their 2016 flavors but hopefully they've worked out their manufacturing issues by now.

Hardees Milkshakes and the Nosh Show Episode 108

Hey Nosh Show Listeners! I'm afraid I'm not on Episode 108 of the Nosh Show because I was busy "relaxing" (aka not relaxing) in Virginia. While the guys were recording the show without me, I did get a chance to try the shakes at Hardees (aka Carl Jrs).

Hardees Milkshakes

I was impressed with how much I enjoyed the strawberry shake, it hit the spot with my so-so "charbroiled" chicken sandwich (aka a piece of chicken that was sort of warm and seemed to have taken a bath in some red dye). I preferred the fun strawberry flavor over the syrup heavy chocolate shake my wife was drinking. However, she had the opposite opinion. My daughter tried both the vanilla (on our first visit) and the chocolate (on our second visit) and she preferred the vanilla.

That said, our only true complaint was that they weren't larger. Ok, technically my daughter did mention that she would prefer a thinner shake with her meal but that's just personal preference there as I definitely prefer a shake that feels more traditional (aka just milk and ice cream).

So, have you had Hardee's (Carl Jr's) shakes before? What do you think of them? Do you get them often? Do you get them with whipped cream?  I think I would prefer their shake over the other fast food chains and I was a little sad that I didn't get to sneak in one more before our journey ended.

Alright, that's it for now, have a good week everybody. There will be a few upcoming posts about some stuff I found in Virginia later on this week.

Cumberland Farms Toasty S'mores Ice Cream

My home ice cream selection doesn't do me much good at work, so I often wander off to find myself a treat. I've already tried most of the new 2017 stuff, so sometimes I have to improvise. And sometimes when you improvise, you grab the 2 for $7 deal.

Turkey Hill Blueberry Ice Cream

[New for 2017, discontinued] Disclaimer: blueberry ice cream is not my thing. Ok, I say that about a lot of things, but it's just not something I gravitate towards unless there is an x-factor like pie crust bits. That said, I wanted to try at least one more of the new flavors in Turkey Hill's all natural line up. (Note: this line up is what I eat when I'm not eating/reviewing something new).

Summer News Update

Hey everybody. I keep getting emailed ice cream presses releases and haven't posted a single one, so let's get caught up. Also, I keep getting these free coupons for Halo Top "ice cream". The first was from Price Chopper and now I got another from Stop & Shop (Giant).

News: Blue Bell Sweet n Salty Crunch was announced this week and it's already being spotted on shelves. It's "vanilla ice cream loaded with chocolate-coated pretzel bites, chopped roasted almonds and milk chocolate chunks". I hope those pretzel chunks stay crunchy!

News: Haagen-Dazs has a non-dairy line up out now. There are four flavors: Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle, Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge, Mocha Chocolate Cookie, and Coconut Caramel. Like H-D sorbet pints, the lids will say "non-dairy". I'm not 100% sure how it works, but basically the main flavor component becomes what binds these together. So that would be the cocoa, the coconut, or the peanut holding each flavor in a solid form. In other words, they seem to be more sorbet than anything, but they aren't calling it that. I'd love to get some back story on these. Are they basically just trying to squeeze in to the "non-dairy" space as opposed to the sorbet space? Do we really need to get that semantically challenged? Yes I'm ranting a little.

News? I never got to try Made with Twix from Baskin-Robbins last month. It's not look so good for "all about Oreo" either at the moment. Today would have been a "good day" to go (in theory) as they were handing out samples of Polar Pizza. I quote good day because for the last several weeks they have been working on the roads between me and my local Baskin-Robbins.

News: local and new, the lactose-free company Minus the Moo will have a pop up shop at the Boston Public Market from July 18th to July 30th. They will have "5 classic flavors plus 4 surprise flavors" for complimentary sampling.

News: Isaly's ice cream is back! I had never heard of them because I didn't grow up in their area and they have been gone for awhile. Since I had nothing to lose, I asked if they would send over samples... and they agreed! Look for that review during the last week of July.

That's it for now. I hate to admit this, but several companies have tried to sponsor posts during July but things have been kind of messy to schedule most of it. I apologize to them and to you for any missed opportunities. Have a good weekend everyone!

Cumberland Farms Chocolate Peppermint Palooza Ice Cream

[New for 2017] I didn't plan on trying more Cumberland Farms flavors since I know many of you will never be able to try them, but check out the coloring on this new flavor. How can I resist something that so blatantly mimics the coloring from a York Peppermint Patty?

Post Frosted S'mores Bites Shredded Wheat Cereal and The Nosh Show Episode 107

Hello Nosh Show Listeners! No ice cream today, but we are going to try out a new segment for Episode 107. You see, we're each going to try something live instead of doing our usual Nosh or Nots. For our first crack at this, I'm going to combine two of my favorite non ice cream things, cereal (in particular mini wheats) and graham (in particular s'mores).

Breyers Delights goes after Halo Top

[New for 2017] I've already seen a couple of our instagram buddies posting similar photos, but now it's my turn to unveil the new Breyers Delights line up that should be hitting your local freezer soon (Probably at $4.99 a pint). Unfortunately I won't be reviewing any of them because, like Halo Top and Enlightened, they are made with erythritol (and technically a little bit of Stevia).

DQ Salted Caramel Blondie Blizzard

[New for July 2017] There are two new blizzards of the month at DQ and while one of them doesn't sound very unique, the other has blondie pieces. I wonder which one I will buy....

Turkey Hill Raspberry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

[New for 2017] To my great delight, I was excited when I heard that Turkey Hill was adding four new flavors to their All Natural line up. I do love this entire product line and am happy to see it grow. Now I won't be trying the new Mango or Mocha Chip flavors because those just aren't for me, but I am pretty excited about the new...

Perry's Cool Mint Ice Cream Sandwiches

{New for 2017] Ok, who is melting in the summer heat and humidity right now? Ok, that's bad, but at least I'm not alone. We're going to do a quick review of something I thought I had already written up. You see, Perry's actually released two new ice cream sandwiches this year and then sent over free samples of both. I've already inhaled the box of Sweet Cream ice cream sandwiches, but I also have a box of...
