Tillamook Waffle Cone Swirl Ice Cream

[Lim Ed in 2018, Full time in 2019] Alright Tillamook, I'm giving you one more chance to impress me here. If a new flavor involving waffle cones doesn't work, maybe nothing will...

Tillamook Waffle Cone Swirl Ice Cream
chocolate and vanilla ice creams swirled with caramel
and chunks of chocolaty waffle cone

Ok, ok...

And there are the waffle cone pieces! If you look closely, notice that the chocolate side seems to have the waffle cones and the vanilla side has the caramel swirl. That's fine, just pointing it out.

My first thought is that their chocolate ice cream is pretty good (the other two flavors I had were both vanilla based). The caramel also seems to be adding a bit of sweetness to the mix (as you would hope). With the vanilla, chocolate and caramel combined, it makes for a very pleasant spoonful.

As for the waffle cone chunks, they seem to be a bit varying on their crunch level. Overall, yeah, I'm not complaining, I would definitely give this an easy thumbs up.

I cant really see the waffle bits so that I can aim for them and guarantee they are on my spoon, but this is the first time I've had Tillamook and thought "yeah, I'd buy this again". Granted I like sweeter flavors, so I'm guessing at least a few people would go "too sweet!".

Recap: tasty! leaning on the sweeter side. crunchy bits are fun. less crunchy bits also fun. debating going for a few more bites but I think I'll wait until tomorrow.

Final note: Tillamook is not a dense super premium ice cream, it's mainstream ice cream. That said, I kind of prefer this type of texture for a flavor like this.

On Second Scoop: While I still enjoyed my second scooping, the waffle cone bits (and caramel) seemed to be less prevalent less time. I do fear that this quart will continue the trend of Tillamook not having a ton of mix-ins. That said, I'll still enjoy it.

Verdict?  tasty! (finally!)
Buy Again?  probably

  1. I have to agree that Tillamook has generally underwhelmed when I've tried them, but this one does intrigue me. Where did you find it? Curious if I'll be able to find it around me!

  2. Stop & Shop for this particular container (also seen Tillamook at Hannaford which makes sense since S&S and Hannaford are owned by same company)

  3. I live near Birmingham, AL. Publix and Winn Dixie carries this brand. Can't wait to find this flavor.

  5. When I lived in OR, Tillamook ice cream was amazing (I'm looking at you, salted caramel oregon hazelnut)....moved to NY and a few years later noticed wegmans is carrying Tillamook....but the packaging looks different. And the taste is not the same, not rich and creamy as the stuff they sell in OR.

  6. I dont know how many years it has been, but all brands, in particular mainstream brands, have had to reduce quality to keep at the same price point. It's immensely frustrating but it's something Breyers, Edys/Dreyers, Turkey Hill, Perry's, etc etc etc etc has done. (Premium brands have also done it, but it's less noticeable)

  7. Tillamook's strengths to me— as relatively new convert—are its fruit offerings. Cherry, Strawberry, Peach, Marionberry Pie (I'm still making up my mind on the last) are far stronger than the vanillas, butter pecan, chocolate that I've tried. I keep these in my rotation at all times. I'd suggest those over the rest.
