Jeni's Brambleberry Crisp Ice Cream

Ok, so this is the other Jeni's flavor that I've been wanting to try for years now. Will it be as amazing as Gooey Butter Cake? Ahhh, probably not, but I'll settle for just really good!

Decent Start

Looks good now right?

So, on one hand, I won't knock the quality here. It's $8 bucks a pint, but you can tell it's not a $4 pint of something else. That said...

I'm not in love with the "sweet-tart" swirl. You get that sweetness at first, but this mild tartness finishes each bite. I rarely dig tart things, so this switch up is not really working for me.

In general, I love these type of flavors with a nice fruit swirl, oat-y or graham-y component, and then just a real nice base ice cream that throws off a little bit of a cheesecake vibe. That's all here, but then that finish kicks in. It's not super strong, but it's there in the back of your mind going "I think I liked that bite, but I'm not super sure.... it wasn't bad, but I don't know if it's good-good".

No, I can't really describe the swirl better than that. Definitely not a typically berry type swirl. The struesel bits are respectable, but a larger bit poked me in the gums, so one demerit for that.

To recap, well made flavor, but not necessarily for everyone. I stopped eating a few minutes ago now and there is still a weirdness on my tongue. It's not a fakeness, but a bit to earthy for my personal liking.

If you've had this one, let me know what you think.

On Second Scoop: I never fell in love with this one, but it did slowly grow on me more to the pint that I was a smidge sad when it was finished. That said, this could be one of those flavors that varies a bit from pint to pint. Maybe this one was good but other pints are great. Well, it's a possibility at least! It's certainly good enough to make me want to try even more of Jeni's flavors (especially if I can ever get my bottom back to Wegman's anytime soon).

Verdict?  good not great

  1. I haven't had a Jeni's that I hated. But it's strange that I like flavors that I thought I'd hate (the banana/bourbon/caramel) and aren't crazy about the ones I thought I'd love (gingerbread/whiskey). Which means, I'd recommend trying ALL of her flavors, if you have the chance. A few may surprise you.

  2. Hey!

I'm only hitting Wegman's right now and there selection varies and is fairly limited - they only had 5 flavors on Sunday. I'm definitely not opposed to trying more, but it will take time :)

  3. @ibagoalie you refer to jeni's as a her-- does one woman concoct all the flavors or is it just creative pronoun-ing, ala calling a seafaring vessel "she?"

  5. Jenni's is gourmet Ice Cream! The Brambleberry Crisp is fantastic! The Crisp has an excellent fresh baked taste. The Brambleberry is sweet with just the right amount of tartness. The Vanilla Ice Cream is creamy with the perfect vanilla flavor. It is $7.99 per pint...so a couple dollars more than the other offerings but, worth every penney.
