Cold Case Killer Bees Ice Cream

So I'm saving the two fruit flavors from the free cold case ice cream shipment for my last post, which means it's time to jump in to the honey flavor. Now I don't love honey flavors, but cold case has already demonstrated that this is a top notch product, so let's see what happens.

Cold Case Ice Cream "Evidence Box"

Cold Case Killer Bees Ice Cream
(honeycomb candy and honey in vanilla ice cream)

Wait, was is that big spot?

It's a giant piece of honeycomb!

I dive in and yeah, this one tastes like honey, but it's like a cold fresh honey. I doubt I'll do a good job describing this, but usually if I buy a honey flavored pint, it just tastes like honey in general, and not necessarily in a way I enjoy. This pint just tastes like straight up honey. My initial thought was that it reminds me of my childhood love of chicken mcnuggets. It's just that old school honey taste. I'm sure this also sounds terribly pointless and circular, but I'm hoping at least a few of you know what I mean.

The giant honeycomb piece is interesting, though I don't eat a lot of honeycomb so I don't know what to compare it to. No, it does not remind me of honeycomb cereal... at least I don't think it does. It's just a very light, very crisp, not super sweet thing. It's also hard to break because of it's thickness, so I wound up just biting it in two.

Despite no particular love of honey flavors, I did find myself continuing to scoop... though maybe I was looking for more honeycomb. The center of the pint was pretty dense, so I did find myself scooping the flavorful, semi-melted sides a fair amount of the time.

Ok, that's all I got on the first scoop of this one.

On Second Scoop: I dug back in, and while I still don't love honey flavors, I do think that this is a nice take on one. I think I wish the honeycomb was a bit more spread out, but I also got that giant piece, so take that as you will. I did wind up trying this with some graham crackers and it's debatable if that helped or not.... I still have a serving left, I wonder if this would mix well with pretzels?

Verdict?  one of the better honey flavors I've had
Buy Again?  not my style though

...and now to finally talk about the cold case experience! Sorry it took so long. I was so busy experiencing the experience that I forgot to talk about the experience :)

In the first post I showed you the lineup that was inside the cold case shipping container, and then this post started with the evidence box that contains the "evidence" (aka the ice cream!). There is a manila envelop inside the box as well, and that envelop contains this epic gold colored shovel spoon! It's so cool that I don't want to take it out of the package, though I know I should. These ice creams have all been quiet dense so I suspect that this reinforced spoon is the perfect tool to excavate all the deliciousness.

Also inside the envelop is "the game" that a few people have asked about. Well, it's a taste test game. The idea is to buy cold case for a party and then have everyone investigate what's in each flavor (with one person being in charge of running the game). I certainly do love talking about ice cream at parties, so I can see this being fun with the right people. Note: there is a sheet for each flavor to help with the game.

I get that there is a lot of concern over the cost of this experience, and at $129 $99 delivered, I'm right there with you. That said, something cool like Caffe Panna is $115 for a six pack delivered.

Thanks again to Cold Case for letting me try their lineup!

  1. Love the packaging and the concept. Im going to save this because I want to order this for my husbands birthday in August but again, in South Florida, in summer I do worry about the logistics of that.

  2. $115 for a known top tier product. You can also get the occasional coupon code. $129 for a spoon and maybe on flavors………….

  3. Is the game the same every time? This would get old fast! I'm not going to make the same point about the price - clearly they know their demographic isn't everyday people or everyday events. It's for a dinner party, a once a sales quarter dinner party. I hope their niche market is enough to keep them around. I REALLY hope the pints become available as singles.

  4. I assume the game doesn't change, though that is definitely a good idea.

There's actually a corporate discount. It would be pretty cool to get this as a holiday bonus, though inevitably a portion who get it will go "I'd rather have a gift card"

  5. I think the game changes because the flavors should supposedly change.

  6. I didn't post the full game directions, but if I did, you would probably think the game does not change.

  7. It's a cool 😉 idea, but too rich for my blood.
