Tillamook Malted Moo Shake Ice Cream

I guess I expected a few more chips in the opening shot.

It still doesn't look like a ton of chips, but don't worry!

I take my first bite and I definitely taste malt. This may seem like an obvious statement, but let me explain. In general, most malt flavors remind me of malted milk balls (Whoppers!), but this one doesn't. I'm actually just thinking about malt and nothing else. That's different for me. 

Secondly, this is mainstream ice cream and not super premium, so that mainstream texture is going to convene that flavoring a bit differently. Since it's a fairly strong flavoring (aka not mild) in a starting-to-melt base, you are in the heart of the flavor pretty quickly.

What I'm trying to say is that we have a malt ice cream that actually tastes like malt. It took a few minutes to get used to it, but it's definitely growing on me.

The other half of this equation is the chips....   that aren't really chips. You know how every now and then that you run in to the semi-soft chocolate "truffle-y" type chocolate chunks? That's what's here and whoever made that choice is a wise person. I think any other chip would have taken me out of the malt vibe while these softer chunks keep things rolling.

This one is different, but yet again Tillamook has put another peg in win column for me. I'm glad I didn't give up on them.

On Second Scoop: Still having fun with this one. I like it by itself, but if you want to take it up a notch, mix in a bit of something like Ben & Jerry's Mousse Pie ice cream. That bit of chocolate mixed in with the malt made for a tasty afternoon snack one day.

Verdict?  I like it!
