Jeni's Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam Ice Cream

[Not sure when this came out, but here's a video of Jeni making it in June 2014]
I don't think there is any huge demand for peach ice creams out there, but it is was summertime and I'm in the mood for something different, so let's enjoy this sunny day with a pint of....

Jeni's Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam Ice Cream
buttermilk ice cream, crumbled biscuits, and swirls of
jam made with Georgia peaches from the The Peach Truck
I would like to see more swirl on the opening shot...

So, I have a question...... Why is this so salty?! 13% sodium in a single serving? Serendipity's Salty Caramel Pretzel was 11% sodium and I thought that was too salty. Technically Talenti has that layered pretzel flavor that is 10% and that's good, but I think that had more overall balance than this one does.

Where's the swirl? (granted every pint can be different)

I think one of my problems is that there is very little sweet peach swirl to counteract all of that saltiness. I'm sure this pint is more tolerable once there is more swirl on your spoon, but that first bite set a bad precedent and I don't think I'm going to make much headway on this serving.

For context: I don't consume nearly as much sodium as I used to, so my opinion here is going to be somewhat biased... but still...

After a few more tiny bites of digging for swirl, I decided to put this one back in the freezer for now. Hopefully this free sample of Jeni's will be a little less shocking on the next go around.

On Second Scoop: I put this one back in the basement freezer several weeks ago and finally tried it again... yup, still too salty. I got in to a bunch of swirl, but I think that was salty too. It's a shame because it's a quality product, I just don't get why it needs to be so overly salty. Bummer.

Verdict?  too salty

  1. A salty peach ice cream. So bizarre. At least with something like b&j's chocolately love-a-fair you know it's salty going into it.

  2. I think it was the biscuits.

I've bought this twice since the name is attractive and the flavor is unique. Family asked me why I bought it again (guess I forgot lol). And agree it wasn't very sweet.

  3. Every component seemed to be salty (base, swirl, biscuits), but it is possible that the biscuit got obliterated and the salty factor seeped in to everything else.

Ha, we've all accidentally repurchased things :)
