Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Caramel Fudge

[New for 1994] Whenever there is a big sale on Ben & Jerry's, I like to treat myself to a pint or two of the good stuff. I might pick up one of my current favorites, or I might pick up something that I haven't had in forever so that I can take new pictures and add a quick update to an old review (here is a random example). Well when I picked up this pint well over a month ago, I didn't realize that I had never had it on the blog before... like, seriously, how has this 30 year old ice cream not been on the blog?

Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Caramel Fudge Ice Cream
vanilla ice cream with swirls of caramel & fudge

It looks busy enough to start...

...but then it hits you...

this is one of those super rare Ben & Jerry's flavors that doesn't have any mix-ins! Yes, it has double swirls, but there's nothing else going on here. The only flavor more simple than this is their pint of vanilla ice cream.

It's not a bad ice cream, but yeah, I'm kind of bored.

On Second Scoop: I wonder how well this one sells and I wonder who the target audience is. Eating this ice cream reminds me of making hot fudge and hot caramel sundaes at McDonald's. Both were tasty, but they weren't as busy or fun as a sundae from Friendly's. This would be a fine ice cream to put in a sundae, but I'm one of the many people who grab's Ben & Jerry's for the quantity and quality of their mix-ins.

Parting question: what's your go to Ben & Jerry's flavor right now?

Verdict?  old fashion
Buy Again?  probably not

  2. Dublin Mudslide is always a hit. And since it's available, I'll grab a pint of pumpkin cheesecake before it disappears off the shelves.

  3. Chocolate chip cookie dough and salted caramel core are my two current favorites!

  4. Call me crazy, but I prefer smooth a creamy ice cream to on with tons of mix-ins. So between the sooth texture and flavors I love, this looks like it's right up my alley!

  5. Actually your post got me thinking this weekend. I was thinking to myself....what was the first flavor B& J ever released. That led me to thinking about the first B&J flavor I ever personally tried. Well I would have guessed Phish Food was the first flavor because I remember all the hype around it. But a quick google search shows just plain vanilla was the first flavor. I know the first time I ever tried B&J ice cream, I had Chunky Monkey. And I remember because I had this fancy tropical taco dessert at a Margaritaville restaurant in Newport News, VA. I knew the ice cream was different than a regular vanilla and asked the server who told me it was B&J chunky monkey they used in the sundae. What was the first flavor you ever tried???

    1. It's funny you ask because i've spent a long time trying to remember what flavor I tried first from them. I think it was 1996-1997 and my fuzzy memory wants to say it was peanut butter cup, but I think maybe it was their excellent heath bar crunch flavor before it changed. I may never remember for sure.
