Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches

We went to Roche Bros for first time in a long time in hopes of introducing my wife to those delicious Good Batch ice cream sandwiches that I tried back in the August 2022 (review here). Unfortunately they were gone, but in their place was a whole variety of treats from Nightingale Ice Cream sandwiches. Here's what we picked for $4.49 a pop:

Nightingale Cookie Monster Ice Cream Sandwich
Nightingale Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwich

Roche Bros also had Key Lime Pie (which is what I should have grabbed), Chocolate Blackout, Banana Pudding, and "The Classic". It seems like all the sandwiches are just over 5 ounces in weight, so they are pretty hefty.

On their website, there is also mention of limited flavors like Raspberry Donut, Apple Cider, and Chocolate Peppermint Bark.

Wow! I was not expecting the "golden-crusted brown sugar cookies" to be so thick! It looks like they used blondie brownies as the sandwich part. Boy that's fun looking!

Ooooooooo geez, I think My wife's sandwich looks even better! That's a busy ice cream and there's lots of it! It's technically "cookie-crumb infused vanilla ice cream" in between those chocolate chip cookies. Oh man, I'm already starting to second guess my choice today.

I take a few bites of mine and then I really start to regret my choice. Now my sandwich is supposed to be good until July 2025 and my wife's is good until August 2025, but while hers tastes fresh, mine tastes like maybe it melted at some point (go look at the picture again and maybe you'll see it).

We were still in the grocery store parking lot, and I really should have went back in and exchanged my sandwich. I thought I could press on through all the icy-ness, but in reality I wound up finishing the cookies and leaving the last few bites of ice cream.

I don't think this is Nightingale's fault, it's just a shame that the ice cream got wrecked along the way to my belly. The idea of this sandwich is still great, and my wife totally enjoyed hers (I had a bite and it was definitely good).

Oh, did I mention that there is no mention of cross contamination with nuts? A lot of times, these young companies either have nuts in their products or share a kitchen space that has nuts in it, but not here. That means I can head back to the store sometime and grab a bunch more for the basement freezer.

So, recap: big fun cookies that were soft but not sticky, a nice solid ice cream in the middle, and lots of fun flavor combos to try. I'm pretty sure I'd be raving a lot more in this post if I had grabbed a different flavor. Oh well, next time!

On Second Scoop: I can't wait to go back for more! If you are interested, there is a retail tracker on their website here. Oh, they also have "Chomp Size" sandwiches that come in four packs, and there are 5 varieties. I might wind up just bringing those home when I get back to that store.

Verdict?  good! and big!
Buy Again?  Yes!

  1. A locally run grocery store in my city regularly stocked these. They were also sold at a local pizza parlor. Delicious when fresh as you say. But too often I paid a lot for ones with freezer burn or other freshness issues. And they are pricey!
