Tillamook Apple Crisp Ice Cream

[New for Late 2024] While Market32 has been supplying us with all of our Tillamook Holiday Sugar Cookie needs, it was Market Basket that hooked me up with the new hotness. That's right, it's time to scoop in to...

Tillamook Apple Crisp Ice Cream
vanilla ice cream with crisp apples and baked oatmeal streusel pieces

It's good to see bits everywhere, even if most of them are pretty small.

Can you see the lighter apple bits mixed in?

Ok, this is not some potent apple flavor.

I take several more bites and all I can say is that it's mild. I'm thinking some of you might be tempted to throw some caramel on this one.... or in a perfect world, throw a scoop of this on an actual apple crisp (or a slice of apple pie).

I like the little streusel pieces. That are pretty solid, but I dig that in an ice cream and I prefer that to them just fading in to the background. Not super flavorful, but different enough to the base.

I dont think I've hit any larger apple bits, but this is Tillamook, so I didn't exactly go in expecting giant chunks of apple. There's just enough apple flavoring to make you think of it, but yeah it's real mild.

So, I can foresee people being underwhelmed here, but personally, I like this one. For starters, Tillamook makes respectable mainstream ice cream. Second, this is different, and I like different. Third, Holiday Sugar Cookie has grown on me since last year and I think this has a similar vibe to it.

Technically I have the fear that the streusel bits will fade away as I dig down, but if they can stay consistant, I can totally see myself buying this one again.

On Second Scoop: Yup, I still like it, but I put that in the context of the fact that I don't always need a super flavorful ice cream for my snack time. Simple is ok sometimes. That said, I did try throwing a little apple cider in the mix during my third scooping today and I think maybe I made it better.

Verdict?  could have more flavor
Buy Again?  probably!

  1. Tillamook (and Hudsonville) has become my favorite large container of ice cream in stores today, this definitely sounds with a try.

  3. Ever since the early 90s when Edys had my most fav flavor of all time - Autumn Apple Pie- I've never found a flavor comparable. I found a brand at Shoprite called Sip n Swirl that had an apple pie ( it's a nj small batch company) it was decent, but roo light and airy. I wonder if this would compare? If I see it, I may give it a try!

    1. Did you ever try the slow churn version they had several years ago? https://www.onsecondscoop.com/2016/10/edys-washington-apple-pie-ice-cream.html

anyway, if you like apple flavors, why not give this one a try?

    2. Unfortunately by that point my Shoprite had gotten rid of Edys, and it's the only store I live near. My Shoprite does stock Tillamook so I will try this if I see it!
