Haagen-Dazs Salted Brown Butter Cookie

[New for 2025] I went to Hannaford with the mild hope of finding something new. Well, I came home with one of the new Ben & Jerry's Sundae flavors and also....

Haagen-Dazs Salted Brown Butter Cookie Ice Cream
brown butter ice cream with milk chocolaty chips and cookie pieces with a touch of salt

Ha, looks like every other cookie dough flavor.
I did expect it to be more beige, but whatever.

I take my first bite and.... hmmm.... another bite.. and another... Ok, it's nice, for sure, it's Haagen-Dazs so I expected nothing less. However, I did expect more flavor. The flavor is nice, and there is some complexity, but greedy me wanted to be blown away by the flavor.

Wait, stepping back, let me clarify that I could easily devour this faux pint of easy scooping Haagen-Dazs. It's a quality product and the flavoring make me want to keep going. Everything I say is just nitpicking on top of that fact.

It definitely deosn't have the typical balls of cookie dough. It's more like a chewy cookie, at least most of the little bits are. I add that disclaimer because I just had one that was crunchy.

Oooo, what a nice (dark-sh) chocolate finish to those few chips I just ate.

Ya know, kudos for making a cookie dough flavor that's a fairly big departure from their other cookie dough flavor. I love H-D, but I definitely don't prefer their regular cookie dough flavor. However, with this one on the market, I can see myself rotating this in to the regular cookie dough lineup in my freezer.

So, interesting. Not mind blowing, but I like the difference. These cookie bits are definitely growing on me as I go, and that's a good thing..

I set the bar way too high in my head, but now that I'm settling in, I'm really enjoying this one.

On Second Scoop: I've been snacking on this one throughout the day and it took all of my self control not to finish it today (I just opened it this morning). I cant remember if there was a Ben & Jerry's (oatmeal?) cookie flavor that had a similar vibe to their cookie chunks. The chunks are never huge, but they are always present, and the base ice cream just goes down so easily. Man I like this one. I'm going to be going through several of these in the near future.

Verdict?  really grows on you

  3. How's the base? Is it buttery? My greatest hope for the world is that one day we'll have an ice cream with a base as buttery as B&J Butter Pecan from back in the day.

  4. Just picked this up today... I did a little "excavating" and the cookie bits resemble pieces of the wafer part of the S'mores Oreos. Good.

  5. This one is fine................................

I mean it's HD so it's going to be quality but for a new product nothing really pops here IMO. It's a cooked cookie flavor. Last year's Vanilla Pecan Caramel and NY Strawberry Cheesecake felt like bolder (for HD) takes on the flavors.

  6. I found it at Shoprite and generally enjoyed it. Some cookie chunks were crunchy some were soft. I'm a huge HD fan so the quality of the base always makes me feel nostalgic.
