[New for Early 2025] I mentioned these big faux quarts not making a ton of sense, but it's still Ben & Jerry's, so let's at least try one of them. I think we'll start with....

And I'm already sad that there are no mix-ins...
It's kind of fun to see how the swirl colored the base ice cream.
I take my first few bites and it's... strawberry B&J's. I think in an instance like this, it's noticeable that the strawberry flavor is coming from a swirl and not a base ice cream. It just comes across differently.
For the record, I didn't mean to try Ben & Jerry's strawberry flavors back to back, but unfortunately, that's what I've done here. Sorry about that.
Anyway.... I'm struggling to find something to say. I just don't buy B&J's for a flavor like this. I might do it with Haagen-Dazs, but not them. This is not their thing.
This is fine and all, but I just don't see it being a big hit. As Reacher said in season 3, he only does chocolate and vanilla, maybe strawberry in a pinch.
Actually, wait, I do need to lodge one minor complaint. I'm not 100% sure what it is, but there's something just a little off with how the strawberry comes across. I can't put my finger on it because I have another cold at the moment, but maybe I'll figure it out tomorrow.

On Second Scoop: Is the sweet cream base too sweet? Is that what's throwing me off? I think that I rarely say something is too sweet, but I don't know how else to convey what is tripping me up here. Oh well. I'll be sticking with my Tillamook Strawberry ice cream for the foreseeable future.

I get the play here actually. I don't think this is intended for their pint demo. This blog and the https://www.reddit.com/r/icecream/ taught me there is a universe of people who want a simple flavor and aren't drawn to B&J's heavy mix-ins. This gives them a chance to introduce their base quality to that group.

ReplyDeleteYeah I think it's for a different niche. I actually picked up all three flavors because I have three kids. We like B&J more premium ice cream base, and the pints are sometimes too little to share adequately. And with inflation in food being what it is, we just can't keep buying pints. Plus, we make a lot of sundaes with fudge/caramel and whipped topping. Too many mix-ins sometimes don't make for a smooth sundae. But, like you said, I doubt the interest will be there overall to keep this line around. It's not what comes to mind when I think of Ben and Jerry's.

Delete@ Anne Sutton, Kroger/Private Selection has a limited-edition Peach Flavor. Peach ice cream, peach swirls and shortbread pieces. Pretty solid, worth checking out once it inevitably goes on sale :)
