[New for Early 2025] I stumbled on @eat_yums instagram post about coming across *5* cereal inspired ice creams at Safeway! Oh, I see The Impulsive Buy has reported them at Shaw's as well! I love ice cream for breakfast and I love mixing ice cream and cereal, so these are right up my alley. I hope they are good!
all images belong to WK Kellogg Co
It looks like the ice creams might be $6 a pop (seems a bit high).
Apple Jacks Ice Cream: cereal milk flavored ice cream blended with apple jacks
Corn Pops Ice Cream: cereal milk flavored ice cream blended with Corn Pops
Froot Loops Ice Cream: cereal milk flavored ice cream blended with Froot Loops
Frosted Flakes Ice Cream: cereal milk flavored ice cream blended with Frosted Flakes
Honey Smacks Ice Cream: cereal milk flavored ice cream with a honey flavored swirl and blended with Honey Smacks
They are all 210 calories and 92g per serving which seems like an odd coincidence since they are made with different cereals, but I'm probably over thinking that fact. Those are the same stats that you would find on mainstream ice creams like Tillamook or Hudsonville.
Who wants a business footnote? So Kellogg's split in to WK Kellogg Co (the cereal side of things) and Kellanova (the snack side of things). That means that the new Eggo and Rice Krispies Treats inspired treats coming to the freezer aisle are trademarked by Kellanova. When I did a post about those new treats, I didn't have a picture yet of....

Rice Krispies Treats Ice Cream: marshmallow flavored ice cream swirled with marshmallow and marshmallow flavored coated rice crisps.
So, are you excited for all this new stuff? I'm pretty sure I'll be trying all of these sooner or later.
Update: I have found all of these at Shaw's and now two of them are in my basement freezer.
Allergy Note: Produced in a facility that also produces eggs, peanuts, sesame, soy, tree nuts, wheat.
These need to come at the same price point as the Little Debbie pints for them to worth it. I can't imagine they're going to be super premium, and the Kelloggs line up isn't nearly as exciting as Little Debbie's
ReplyDeleteGood call!
DeleteCrazy, I was scrolling back to find the original post and mention these were starting to pop up in my local Kroger. The Rice Krispy is 230 call. $6.99 for $2.10 is a decision.
ReplyDeleteI snagged the Rice Krispy for $4.99 but the rest will have to wait for a sever discount.
Ha! I had originally mentioned that Rice Krispies was a few more calories but then re-arranged the post and dropped that sentence.
DeleteWait, you saw them for $6.99!?! That's unreal. $4.99 is the most that these should be, and that's if they're good.
Typos……
Delete@Dubba the regular price at Kroger was $5.99 so the “sale” was $4.99. I meant to say $5.99 for a 210-230 calorie pint is quite the decision. I feel like a lot of newer brands are going that route and the aren’t moving of shelves. Especially in places like Kroger where selection is limited unlike Walmart.
@Megan, good point on pricing should be comparable to the Hudsonville/Lil Debbie’s line.
I notice he saw them at Kroger. I have watched our local Kroger price ice cream. They seem to come in really high like 6.99 to almost 9.00 for a pint for much of the new stuff. But wait! They ALWAYS discount. I see a buy one, get one half in about three weeks later. And if you're really patient, you can get them on clearance. Now maybe waiting you risk the terrible freezer burn. But, honestly, who can pay the original price?! There's usually pay-off in the patience...unless you're in an area where things sell out fast. I personally don't have high hopes for these. I'm leary of the base, fearing it won't be good quality. But, sure, I'll try them if I see a reasonable sale. I'm most interested in frosted flakes because I was always a big Tony the Tiger fan as a kiddo!
DeleteReally good points @Anne Sutton. I rarely buy pints at full price outside of Blue Bell because they aren't usually on sale many places.
DeleteMy local Kroger has been clearing a lot of stock with new flavors coming in. Off the top of my head:
All Graeter's product
Several HD flavors wish I could remember them all, Rum Tres Leche and the newer Vanilla Pecan Caramel
B&J: Impretzively Fudged
All Dr. Bombay products
Yes! Additionally, at our local Kroger, they had some van Leeuwen set to clear, their own brand of s'mores ice cream sandwiches (which are really darn good....I bought two packs for $1.26 for twelve....and they were not expired or stale! Crazy, right?!), M&M chocolate ice cream sandwiches (which did taste stale), and some Hawaiian host taste of Hawaii rocky road (made from macademia nuts). My boyfriend loves macademia nuts so I gave this one a whirl, and I was shocked how good it was for non ice cream. But it did take forever to temper. There are a few other flavors including a coffee based one (I know, not your thing) and mango.
DeleteI bought the Froot Loops one in Kroger for 4.99. 620 calories for 14oz. No chunks of frost loops, it was all completely pulverized.
ReplyDeleteThe flavor was ok, the texture was fairly gummy - which makes sense with the many gums and corn syrup ingredients.
I liked it more than I thought I would. Unfortunately they are charging premium prices for a not premium product.
Thanks for the review!
DeleteSo I had the Rice Krispy treat last night. I have to agree with the review of Froot Loops. I liked it more than I thought I would but it’s not worth the price point:
ReplyDeleteIt wasn’t overly sweet between the base and the marshmallow.
There was a good amount of rice krispy treats that were all crunchy in a good way
The base quality felt somewhere between the Lil Debbie pints and Van Luween. Slight above expectation but not creamy by any means
I don’t think I would purchase again short of a BOGO that gets it closer to $3.99 a “pint”. My gut would also be that the flavors with swirls and mix-ins (Eggo) are the best move compared to basically the cereal milk versions.
I picked up Rice Krispies and Frosted Flakes for $4.99 a pint. Review in the near future!
