[New for 2025] There are a bunch of Kellogg's pints coming at us, but to be sensible, I only brought two home. I opened both Frosted Flakes and this one, but after doing a quick sniff test, I decided that this one needed scooping first. Let's dive in to....

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats Ice Cream
marshmallow flavored ice cream swirled with marshmallow and marshmallow flavored coated rice crisps.

ha, branded seal

wow, there's a nice marshmallow smell coming off of that
My initial thought was "this tastes like cool whip with little chewy bits in". That doesn't sound super flattering because it's not really meant too, but I pressed on.
What I do like about this ice cream is the flavor. It tastes like fun marshmallow rather than fake marshmallow. That's a big win right there.

Once you get down further, there are larger krispy treat chunks which are more fun than the little ones that floated to the top. The little ones just dont really add anything, while the bigger ones are at least attempting to make this one fun.
This one is quite sweet, so be warned of that if that's not your thing.
Last is the texture. With a few minutes of tempering, this one was quite soft. When that softness mixes with the swirl, you're in for a somewhat gummy treat. You definitely won't be thinking of super premium ice cream as you scoop this one.
I think part of the problem is that I bite in to it and have mixed feelings, but than I get that marshmallow aftertaste and think "I need to scoop another bite".
Ok, I'm putting this one away for now. It has some negatives, but the flavor kept me going.
On Second Scoop: I still love that it smells like a rice krispies treat. Part of me wants to cut a homestyle rice krispies treat in half and fill it with this stuff. I take a few bites and I'm still torn on this one. I like the flavor and I like the idea, but I don't love the execution. I wonder if it would work better as a super premium ice cream, but I don't know if that would actually fix the issue. The treat bits are fun but not perfect. At the very least, I can say that if you think this one might be too sweet for you, you're probably right. Alright, let me know what you think if you try this one!
Verdict? a mix of good and so-so qualities
Buy Again? probably not?
Buy Again? probably not?
Allergy Note: manufactured on shared equipment
lol like everything works better as a premium ice cream. Once you’ve had that, these fluffy pints and frozen dairy desserts just don’t quite ever hit the spot for me.
ReplyDeleteSignificantly better than frosted flakes, on par with froot loops. Havent tried the rest of the flavors.
ReplyDeleteSo much potential with these, unfortunately I agree the execution is mediocre.
My upcoming FF review will not be flattering....
DeleteYour next try should be Fat Boy Cookie Sandwich, caramel cookies and cream. It's the best store bought ice cream sandwich I ever had. It's the only Ice cream sandwich I would put above Nightingale
ReplyDeleteI will be trying to get more Fat Boy stuff on the blog this year
DeleteI left my thoughts in another post but generally liked this one for what it was/is. My complaints about the price point show that these companies know more than me. The section of 3-4 flavors in my local Kroger have been cleared out at the $5.99 price point :)
ReplyDeleteha! but how many people will repurchase at that price point?
DeleteHonestly I don’t think today’s companies care about repurchase. They just churn out something new and novel to sell. And it does
ReplyDeleteHa! It certainly feels that way!
